Reclaim hidden space

Live Photo converter

Each Live Photo stores a hidden video clip next to the picture. Clean Kit finds your Live Photos, sorts them by size and date, and converts them to stills in bulk while keeping the original creation date, location and metadata.

The hidden video in every Live Photo

A Live Photo is a still image plus a short video of the moments before and after you press the shutter. That clip often makes a Live Photo around twice the size of a regular photo. Across thousands of photos, that’s gigabytes of video you may never play.

Convert in bulk

The built-in way is to duplicate each Live Photo as a still and then delete the original, which is slow and creates confusing duplicates. Clean Kit does it in bulk:

  1. Open Live Photos in Clean Kit. They’re sorted by size and date.
  2. Select the ones you want to convert.
  3. Clean Kit creates still versions with the original date, location and metadata.
  4. Delete the originals when you’re happy, and empty Recently Deleted.

Keep Live Photos of moments where motion matters, like kids, pets and fireworks, and convert the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Does turning off Live in the Photos app save space?

No. Edits in Photos are non-destructive, so the video stays stored. Converting to a still and deleting the original is what frees the space.

Will I lose the date and location?

No. Clean Kit preserves the original creation date, location and other metadata, so converted photos stay in the right place in your timeline.

What about Loop and Bounce effects?

Effects like Loop, Bounce and Long Exposure rely on the video, so they may be lost after conversion. Keep the original for photos where they matter.
